Cambodia: Dangerous “health checks” imposed on tourists

Ear thermometer

Shocked tourists are being subjected to dangerous compulsory “health checks” when they enter Cambodia. As visitors wait in line, a border guard shoves a filthy temperature probe into their ears.

It’s sharp, dirty, and the 60-year old border drone who stands about 5 feet tall with shaky hands and bad eyes isn’t the most accurate or gentle. Everybody in line looked dumbfounded – pmmp, tfs2m.com

For hygiene reasons, the examiner should clip a new throw-away cover to the ear thermometer before each test but returning tourists have reported that, in Cambodia, this doesn’t happen. The risk of contracting a dangerous ear infection is very real – particularly for children.

Personally, I’d rather take my chances with pig flu so I won’t be travelling to Cambodia until these disgusting “health checks” stop.
